When I went to BlogHer and saw that Texas Instruments was going to be hosting a breakfast to learn about the TI Nspire CX Graphing Calculator, I knew that I needed to go. With 2 kids in College this year, along with myself, a good calculator could be so helpful.
I expected to learn about their calculator, but I didn't expect for it to be so fun! Texas Instruments served us a nice breakfast, before showing us how classrooms are putting their products to use. It was so nice to have actual math and science teachers show us what they're doing in their classrooms. The Nspire CX is so much more than a calculator. It has a back lit, full color screen that is easy to use, and within the classroom it can be used with additional technology to share answers with the teacher via Wi-Fi, and it can be hooked to a thermometer for science projects.
It includes software to allow you to work on both science and math projects then via a USB, hook it up to the computer to finish working where you left off. It has 3D graphing capabilities that bring your work to life, and you can upload your own pictures. This calculator is more like a mini computer!
Now, I know at a price of $149 it may seem like a lot to spend on your middle school child, but if you figure in all the capabilities, and the longevity of this item, it may be a very good investment to make. After all, your child will be taking both math and science right through college. This is even permitted for use on the SAT/ACT.
I really enjoyed the time spent with Texas Instruments at BlogHer, and I'm so grateful for the calculator they gave me for attending. I just know it's going to make my trip back to Math class so much easier!
1 reader will also win a TI Nspire CX graphing calculator with software. Maybe, it will be you! To enter just complete the rafflecopter form below.
Also, TI is currently running a sweepstakes to win TI technology for your child's classroom, and a visit from The Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik. You can find out more and enter to win on their Facebook page: Facebook.com/TICalculators
