Marvel's The Avengers Review, Take the Whole Family!

Avengers has everything you could want in a movie. It’s 2.5 hours of action packed amusement that in no way feels like 2.5 hours. From the moment the film starts, you are on the edge of your seat. They spared no expense on the special effects which kick off at the very beginning when Loki steals the power cube known as the Tesseract. If you saw Captain America, you will remember this as the power source that Red Skull stole. It was recovered along with the frozen Captain America.

With the Tesseract in the hands of evil, our world is in peril. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk and Hawkeye must now work together to knock out evil if humanity is to be saved. The problem is each of these Super Heroes comes with Super Egos.

Everyone loves a good battle between Good and Evil, but it is the egos of the heroes that made the Avengers so enjoyable for me. The tension between these characters that seemingly have no business working together leads to some the best moments. Robert Downey Jr. was born to play the role of Tony Stark/Ironman, and he does it with such style and wit. Pair that wit against Chris Evans’ Captain America and you’ve got movie gold.


Coming into the movie, I was most curious to see how the Bruce Banner/Hulk role would work out. Avengers brings Mark Ruffalo to the role of the scientist turned big green monster. And, the casting is perfect! Ruffalo brings a certain intelligence and softness to the Banner role that wasn’t seen in the previous films. I’ll say it…They finally got it right! I have a new appreciation for the Hulk. Some of his best moments on screen are with Black Widow, and for long time comic book fans; a battle that brings to life the classic Thor vs. Hulk.

Even if you’re not a comic book fan, if you like a movie with action, drama, comedy, special effects, and just really good characters, (not to mention a little eye candy, ) you’ll want to see Avengers. It’s PG-13 because of comic style violence, and 1 “weed” reference, but take your kids. The reference will probably go right over their little heads, and they’ll love you for taking them. Stand in line this weekend, or be smart and buy your tickets on-line because everyone will be talking about this movie, and you’re going to want to be one of them. In a theater full of children, I heard not a single little voice. They were all just as captivated as I was, and I’m sure you will be too!

Make sure to stay through the credits for bonus clip, and during the credits, take note of the first song from Soundgarden in 15 years, "Live to Rise."

Marvel, The Avengers is Super Epic! I can’t wait to see it again!
